The Force of Contradiction
Contradiction is more than a single moment of abstract opposition, it also shows us a positive multiplicity of forces in the world.
The Taliban: what are they to us? In a moment in the past, they were part of a larger narrative of terrorism, now they are part of a synthetic Idea of American Imperialism falling apart. More than this, they are part of the Ideas of “I am losing,” “I” being known through the acts of others as the state, thus, we have a personal crisis (although many of us know the state is not really “I” in a significant sense anymore). The Idea of “American Imperialism” and a sort of “Contemporary Common Sense Freedom” are constantly at odds for each moment by different subjectivity reflections, different egoistic ideals articulating definitions of raw material action. The raw material of the world is at both times the exact negative of reflection, as well as what makes reflection possible, so it is easy to see why philosophy has tried to assert the reality of material. Reflection for a subject needs material, but material does not need reflection. I need a brain to reflect, but my brain can exist after it stops reflecting, say, if my heart is torn out by a Klingon or something and eaten. None-the-less, reflection is still extremely important and affects how material moves and is reflected upon.
The Freudian Molecule is at the core of the theory of Dialectical Egoism, and thus the Taliban, America, as well as you and I are molecular. Synthetic psychoanalytic masses which are unordered, but carry within it both potential and Actual force, both for ourselves, and for institutional objects which we reflect have a sort of reflection, and in their interpersonal capacity, actualize these beliefs which need no formal individual believers. We have been Actualized by our parents just as America has been Actualized by the fighters of The Revolutionary War, but America has more backers, a Quantitative mass dwarfing our individual names.
When a subject reflects that there is a crisis, what does this mean for the synthetic Freudian molecule, which is to say, what we are reflecting and is in fact, in front of us? One can reflect the institution of America is in crisis, but then you still only have an object reflecting on an object. This is an appeal of Marxist dialectical materialism, to provide an essential string within the Freudian Molecule which is a synthetic unity that can pull apart this synthtic unity into its actual forces, but this is also the same appeal of egoism. Egoism as Actual force can desymptomatize, just as dialectical materialism can via the decoding of unity into parts of its individual forces.
The Taliban’s monetary backers can be traced back to global capitalism, to the oil trade, to the United States providing money. Why did the United States provide money to the Taliban? Because of the Freudian Molecule of Communism, and insofar as force was directed against the institution of the Soviet Union, America was successful, September 11th or no.
September 11th being its own result of Egoistic force however, shows that you have to choose a symptom carefully before you direct force at it.
